SPEAKER_09

You can be set to run a race, right? So set in the box. And then instead of running a race, you run back to the change room.

SPEAKER_00

Let's get this podcast started. MJ MJ.

SPEAKER_07

Hey, welcome to the Pop Culture Podcast, your weekly dose of all things pop culture, freshly squeezed for you. I'm Nate.

SPEAKER_09

I'm MJ.

SPEAKER_07

And we are back for another week after recouping and relaxation. I'm pumped. Oh, I'm still tired. I'm still tired, but I'm pumped. All that driving. Yeah. All that driving. I'm north of 50 now. Just the way it works. Speak for yourself. It's physically, I'm not mentally.

SPEAKER_09

Uh no, both. Okay. Yeah. Physically, mentally, spiritually. Okay. Good to know. Yeah. A complete mess.

SPEAKER_07

I think I I think I'm I think I'm physically that. Uh mentally half that. Um checks out. And uh spiritually, even less than that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

So I think that checks out for you.

SPEAKER_07

Yes, definitely for me. Yeah. We've got a big show coming at you. Uh we've got uh your regular segments of uh the uh review and also the aisle.

SPEAKER_09

What about the tomb?

SPEAKER_07

Uh we do have some uh some more information regarding the tomb. Nice, very exciting.

SPEAKER_09

Uh what about Moss Isley mailbag?

SPEAKER_07

And and I was getting to that. Uh we we we we missed it in the last episode. We apologize for that.

SPEAKER_09

The listeners are rabid. Yes. They're absolutely livid that we missed it last time.

SPEAKER_07

I yeah, there was riding in the streets and flipping cars just like There was.

SPEAKER_09

And we don't condone that uh uh um uh sort of exercise, but you do no I condone the passion. Oh right. But I don't condone the flipping of cars.

SPEAKER_07

It's like an English soccer, like the end like the finals of an English soccer game. No, it's not like there was like looting and setting fire to bins and tipping cars and bring bring back the mailbag that they were all chanting.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, I guess that is a bit like um England losing at a tournament yet again.

SPEAKER_07

But uh but we digress, we've got uh we've got a big show for you, but uh first let's get into the zest. Let's get into the zest. Alright, Mr. Trailers, what do you got for us?

SPEAKER_09

Oh, I've got heaps of stuff. Yeah, um uh in terms of trailers, we've got Go go trailer, trailer rangers. Well, I think the big one is the lantern's trailer.

SPEAKER_07

Lantern's trailer.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, or the teaser as it's still called.

SPEAKER_07

How how many times did you watch it? Uh I reckon four or five. Yeah, I would probably be the same. Yeah. I was looking for all the all the all the good things in it.

SPEAKER_09

Um uh Nate's wearing his lanterns. I am wearing lantern. His green lantern cap.

SPEAKER_07

Yes, absolutely. Represent.

SPEAKER_09

Just to be clear, listeners.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, represent, absolutely.

SPEAKER_09

Um it's got uh yeah, cap's got a touch of the true detectives about it too. Like it's sort of a beaten-up like cut uh trucker, it's not a trucker cap, it's a baseball cap. It's a trucker, but it's got sort of a trucker vibe about it. It looks like it's been through some stuff.

SPEAKER_07

It has been through.

SPEAKER_09

It's the it's the Kyle Chandler Hel Jordan of Caps.

SPEAKER_07

It's it's a it's an amazing cap, and I'd cherish it forever.

SPEAKER_09

Oh yeah, no, I'm not being disparaging. It's it's absolute gold.

SPEAKER_07

The interesting thing about this trailer, right? And and it's the one thing that that that they still haven't, I mean, it's definitely on the record, but they they haven't shown you it in the trailer as such, is that we're getting it in two time periods. So it's gonna be 2016 and 2026. I don't think I'd heard that. Yeah, so keep that in mind um uh when we actually get the the trailer.

SPEAKER_11

Okay.

SPEAKER_07

So we're gonna be getting um it's so so essentially, and this is where we're getting this sort of true detective kind of feel.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Because we in in the for those of you who might not have watched true detective, we get uh uh a story of that of t they're telling a story that's in the past.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

So so it's current time when you're watching it, and then you go back in time to uh find out the story of how they are what they are now. Okay um what was the highlights for you of the trailer?

SPEAKER_09

Um I had quite a bit. I've actually taken notes. Oh wow, I I rewatched it and I I took um bullet points because I had a bunch of stuff I wanted to talk about this trailer.

SPEAKER_07

Let's go.

SPEAKER_09

Um the one of the main things is that I I like the boxes that it ticked. Yep. Um, you know, because there was criticism of the f original teaser that apparently has disappeared now. Yep. Um that it wasn't green enough, it wasn't this enough, it wasn't space enough, all that sort of thing.

SPEAKER_13

Yep.

SPEAKER_09

Um, and this one I felt like it ticked a lot of those boxes. I'm not gonna say it ticked all of them because I'm sure there's still people that want I'm I'm sure there's still stuff that people want, and I don't mean that as a criticism. Yeah, um, but for me, it sort of tackled a lot of those um issues. Yeah, the the this teaser, um, you know, we see Hal using the ring, we see Hal flying, we see Hal in Hal in the suit, and I'm colourblind, so I don't know, so our Dark's producer Kim, but apparently the suit's a bit more green than when we saw it the last time. So it's ticking a lot of those uh boxes, but we also see a lot of other uh there's also a lot of other boxes ticked in my book. Um, like we see John at uh war or on a military operation. We see Guy Gardner briefly. Um so that ticks another box.

SPEAKER_07

Um the military operation, you talking about him when he's firing the gun?

SPEAKER_09

Well he's he jumps out of the back of a plane, too.

SPEAKER_07

He does jump out the back of a plane.

SPEAKER_09

Like he's it's a paratrooper type moment. Um so for me, for me, that's um seeing him in his marine mode.

SPEAKER_07

Did you notice when he fired the gun and there was an explosion? Yes. Did you notice the colour of the explosion? Or uh I'm told it was green. It was yellow. Oh, it was yellow, actually.

SPEAKER_09

It was yellow. Alright. It must be thinking.

SPEAKER_07

Was it an explosion at the end that it was green or there was a big explosion that was in the air and it there was like a construct top yep, I know that one you mean? Red there was to cover a lot what looked like maybe a lot of red rings. Okay. Um, you know, firing into the air.

SPEAKER_09

Well, there's a shot in it as well where John's on the ground and someone's holding in some sort of gun with yellow at his head or his neck. It's yellow, is it? Yeah, that's yellow. Because I knew that it was glowing, but I wasn't sure what sort of colour that was. So that's that's interesting.

SPEAKER_07

So that's yellow. Uh we also uh got um a very quick glimpse of um my man Guy. So Guy Gardner.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah. Do you reckon he was behind bars or he was visiting someone behind bars?

SPEAKER_07

Uh he was visiting someone by I I reckon he was visiting John or Hal behind bars.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

That's what I reckon.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, no, that I think that was what um uh producer Kim thought as well.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I think he's um I think he's actually um probably bailing him out. Probably bailing Hal out.

SPEAKER_09

Okay.

SPEAKER_07

I loved I loved uh the construct that that Hal did in the bar with the with the with the bill, with the dollar bill.

SPEAKER_09

Oh yeah, yeah, I th that that was fun. I thought that was fun. Yeah, I loved the um the shield that he puts up to protect himself from being shot by bullets. Yeah, yeah. Um I thought that looked really, really great.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

Um yeah, no, there was just lots of stuff in this this trailer that I thought was um I'm hoping that people are getting excited about it. Um I'm hoping that it sort of allays some of the the fears of other people. Another thing that I noticed in the trailer was um uh what well like I think we get a glimpse of an alien planet. Um the ice planet with the big sort of crevice up it. Like that did not look like Earth to me. No, it didn't work. And it looked too close to that other planet or moon for it to be our moon. Yeah. Um, so I think that that's sort of ticking the box of, you know, are we gonna see them in space? Um, I still don't know whether we're gonna see heaps and heaps of them in space, but um, you saying that it's taking place in two different time periods makes me think that maybe we'll see sort of how in his prime as a Green Lantern back in 2016, did you say? Yep.

SPEAKER_07

Yep. Or before that, right? So so what we could be doing is uh what I sort of envisage is that we're gonna be seeing them in these two time periods, yeah, but we're also gonna be seeing some other stories of how they became who they are in these time periods, right? Right?

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

So so we might be seeing how Jordan maybe at the end of his prime in 2020 in 2016, because of what took place prior to that, yeah, right? Um, and him meeting John, and then we're seeing John, or maybe I don't know, or maybe they do a true detective and they go back and we see how they met each other, you know, in 2016. Regardless, it it they're not going to be friends, right? They don't like each other. Clearly, um John, you know, thinks that Hal is outdated and um it's time for it for a new Green Lantern.

SPEAKER_09

No, well that's I mean, that's the fun of I mean, it's kind of the fun of Hal's uh relationship dynamic with pretty much anybody. He clashes with everyone, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Um he is the best and he knows he's the best, but he just and and he makes sure that everybody knows that, right?

SPEAKER_09

But he particularly clashes with John because they they come from uh sim similar yet different backgrounds, you know, they've both got uh backgrounds in sort of military fields, but very, very different experiences. You know, Hal's a um a reckless uh test pilot, and um John, of course, is a Marine, which is all about discipline and um you know sort of backing people up and not screwing people over in the field and that sort of thing. Um and so um yeah, no, I I think that's gonna be the fun of the of the the the whole buddy cop type relationship. Yeah, and then you throw Guy Gardner into the mix and we're gonna have a blast.

SPEAKER_07

It's gonna be awesome. We also got a uh an image of what looked like Hal in his suit behind like a barrier of some sort and someone standing in front of him. Yeah, I'm guessing that's Sinestro.

SPEAKER_09

Was it that that it wasn't the kid? Like there's a an image of him. It looks like Hal's in a construct box, yeah, and there's a there's a kid outside it.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_09

So I'm I think we're talking about different scenes.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, no, I I think that's the same thing.

SPEAKER_09

I thought that that was maybe um maybe that was Sinestro, but yeah, I didn't notice I didn't notice anyone that I thought was um Sinestro sort of specifically, but yeah, um yeah. But it's got a good cast, amazing cast, yeah, and and also someone that I don't think I knew was in it. Um one of my favourites, Laura Linney. Yes. Um we get a shot of her um and she's speaking and everything. Um I have a theory about her. Um I reckon she's playing Carol Ferris. Oh, that's a good call. Yeah, that's a great call. Um I just have a feeling like she's she's obviously speaking. I think she's speaking to John. John. Um speaking to John, she's kind of got a like commanding sort of presence, like a managerial type thing. Um like she runs uh runs a test pile, you know, like and also like the the now the the um ages of Kyle Chandler and Laura Linney um are pretty comparable too. Yeah, yeah. Like we're seeing an older version of Hal Jordan, so why would we not be seeing an older version of Carol Ferris? Makes perfect sense. Um she's not credited on IM on IMDB, I noticed. Yeah, um, which I thought was interesting. And another um aspect of of casting as well, um, and this is a bit of a wild sort of all over the place theory, but um, when I was on IMDB, I noticed that there's an actress by the name of uh Jade Ramirez. She's playing um Jessica Jordan in one episode. Jessica Jordan, I looked it up, is Hal's mother. Oh but it made me wonder because like um Jessica is another, I mean has has a greater significance these days in Green Lantern lore.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

Because Jessica Cruz is one of the most prominent, or if you're reading the comics at the moment, the the the head honcho.

SPEAKER_07

And who will be in uh My Adventures with Superman, which will also then transfer over into My Adventures with Green Lantern, so she's a prominent and and and so it made me wonder whether Jessica Jordan perhaps was I don't know, maybe Hal's daughter, or and whether they were going to you know cross over that character or interesting, yeah.

SPEAKER_09

I don't know, it's just a weird sort of theory, and also the fact that it's being played by someone with uh um sort of a Latinx roots, um you know, Jade Ramirez. Yeah, also and and again, it's a wild theory, yeah. Uh Jade, the actress's name, is is also significant to Green Lantern, with Jade being Alan Scott's daughter. So I mean that's total uh tinfoil hat stuff. Um but it made me excited that perhaps there's a potential for us to see Jessica Cruz um in this show.

SPEAKER_07

So so all all things aside, way on board, like really loved it. I always was. Yeah, yeah. I I so was I. Yeah, so was I.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

I think I think it's probably quitened the noise a lot of uh the internet.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, well I don't know. I've I mean I've been a bit out of touch this week because I've been in like on holidays. You you switched off. Uh a little bit. A little bit. I've been reasonably in touch, but um I switched off yeah, but um no, I I I don't know. Like I haven't been in the shop, that's for sure. It hasn't been a lot of noise.

SPEAKER_07

It's it's definitely uh, you know, that sort of galactic proportion, green. Um I think the only thing is is that that we did see Hal sort of take off and fly. Yeah, we didn't see any sort of construct around him or green or anything else. I think that's probably been the biggest criticism at this stage. And I would say while he was flying. While we took off from the ground, he sort of jumped up and he flew off. But we didn't really and we didn't see any sort of green around him or construct that does he always have that though? Uh yeah, yeah, he does. Yeah, yeah. If you if you see him whenever he he's flying, it he's always.

SPEAKER_09

This might be a colour blind thing, I don't know.

SPEAKER_07

But um But that that's well again it's a teaser. I reckon we're still getting parts of it that maybe haven't the effects haven't been added in. Yeah. Um and I I think that's based on the based on the feedback or the just the horrible noise that was coming from the original teaser, um, I think they went into sort of meltdown mode and took the other one off, had to re-edit it, make it make it a little bit more sexy and appealing um than what it what the original was, okay, and then move forward. The thing that that does concern me about this is that it has been picked up for season two, and that's not the part that I'm concerned about.

SPEAKER_09

Okay.

SPEAKER_07

What I'm concerned about is our showrunners are gone. They're leaving after season they've left after season one. Okay, and we're getting two new showrunners for season two.

SPEAKER_09

Interesting.

SPEAKER_07

Now that that's that says a lot about a show. Now, this show is quite old now. It's been it was shot two years ago.

SPEAKER_11

Yep.

SPEAKER_07

Two and a half years ago. Yep. And it's only just coming into now.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

There's been a lot of production hell behind the scenes, um, which is on the record. Yeah. And I know our showrunners have really pushed for Green Lantern to be a certain way, and I think that that has sort of come to a head.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

And our showrunners are now exiting.

SPEAKER_11

Okay.

SPEAKER_07

So Lindelof is one of those, um, which is a bit of a shame. We'll just have to wait and see what what season two looks like.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Um, but I'm really excited for season one, you know, in the meantime.

SPEAKER_09

I'm interested to know more about why the showrunners would be leaving. I know that Lindelof has had some things to say about the Warner Brothers merger with Paramount. Um he's not in favour. Yeah. And so I I don't know whether perhaps that might be more of a reason why he's leaving as opposed to a creative one with the lantern show. Another theory, this is just a theory off the top of my head, but perhaps um a little bit like like True Detective was different characters every season, wasn't it?

SPEAKER_07

Yes, it was.

SPEAKER_09

So what if lanterns is like that?

SPEAKER_07

Well, it it could very I mean look, you know, the thing about, and I think Damien Lingeloff said it uh very early on after Teaser 1, yeah, was that we that Lanterns is not just about green lanterns. They called it lanterns because there was multiple colours of the spectrum.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, yep, yeah. And that's I think that's what I'm working towards. Because like for all we know, this could be Hal and Jordan's uh Hal and John's season. Yeah, and then the next season could be I don't know, Guys and Black.

SPEAKER_07

Lafleys and Chip or you know, Norton, you know, we don't know.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, um or Razors. Or maybe it could be, you know, it could be it could be Jessica and Simon Baz. Yeah. And I'd watch that.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

Um, so I don't know. I think it's too early to to tell. I think um it's hard to say that it's a bad thing that a show's been renewed for a second season. I think if it's been renewed for a second season, that shows that there's there's at least some level of confidence.

SPEAKER_07

I I think it's great. Don't get me wrong. I'm I'm excited for season, I'm excited that we're actually getting something to do with Greenlands, right?

SPEAKER_11

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

What I'm what concerns me is that when we have a change of showrunner, especially those that are bringing this expectation into it, yeah, and then we're getting another bunch of showrunners, that just shows that there is there's a lot of problems behind the scenes. And we've seen that time and time again in some of our most favourite shows where a new showrunner takes over and it doesn't always go the way that we would like it to.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, and you and you're possibly right, and and and you you've got to have some concern when writers of this um ilk like they're they're illustrious, right? Yeah, that's right. Um, you know, when when they're leaving a show, that's obviously not a good thing. But if if you are telling a different story, maybe bringing in different writers is the way to go.

SPEAKER_07

Well, I hope so, you know, and uh and and you know, we'll we'll just remain positive and optimistic that that's happening. Um totally. And uh, you know, the sooner it comes out in August, the better.

SPEAKER_09

Can't wait.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. What else we got on trailers?

SPEAKER_09

Um uh well, one that I don't know whether we talked about it on here before, but it really caught my eye is um the latest uh release from Leica Studios, the stop motion animation.

SPEAKER_07

Amazing power Wildwood. How amazing was this trailer! Doesn't it look spectacular? It it really does, and it's the highest viewed animated trailer of all time, apparently. Oh wow, okay.

SPEAKER_09

I'm not surprised because it's stunning. Yeah, like some of the stuff, particularly in the latter half of the trailer, reminds me of Lord of the Rings, like wetter type stuff. Yeah, like it it I look at it and I think, you know, how have they done that with stop motion animation? And the answer is clearly they've just done it with stop motion animation. Like they've just pushed the envelope to a point where we're seeing things that we've never seen in stop motion before. Yeah. Um, and I'm I'm just really excited by that trailer.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I I I didn't really get too much of a story on what what it was about.

SPEAKER_09

Well, I think it's it's based on a a book or a graphic novel or a children's book or something. I haven't looked too much into that, yeah. Um, but I believe that's the case. Yeah. Um, and I I will certainly look at that, but for them for the moment I'm just excited about this film because it looks amazing.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_09

Um I realized that I actually haven't seen any of the previous Lyker releases. And I call myself a stop motion animation fan, and I felt I was a bit disgusted.

SPEAKER_07

Which which ones haven't you seen? I haven't seen any of them. So Kubo and the and the six is it six strings or three strings or whatever? Two strings. Um amazing. Like that that that's what put Leica on the map. So um yeah.

SPEAKER_09

Um no, I think well, Coraline was what put it on the map.

SPEAKER_07

Well, Coraline was there, but that was Kubo was the one Kubo was the one that that internationally really sort of gave it a claim.

SPEAKER_09

I could be wrong, but I think Kubo won the Oscar for best animated feature. Yep. Um, so one of the things that I did while I was away this week is I watched Coraline. Oh, okay. I'm gonna launch myself into catching up on all of the the Leica films because because I definitely want to see this one in a theatre. Yep. And I know we keep saying it, but potentially in IMAX if possible. Um because it just looks uh spectacular.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah, it's it's it it is awesome. Um definitely got on Kubo if you when you when you get the chance to I'm gonna as I said I'm I'm gonna now watch them in order.

SPEAKER_09

So I've I've watched Coraline and I've watched the trailer for Paranorman. Yep. Um I'll watch that next and and I'll I'll keep pushing forward.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, Paranorman's fun too. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a good one.

SPEAKER_09

The trailer definitely looks fun. I recognised a lot of voices in the cast.

SPEAKER_07

Um and it's kind of your bag too, like you know, that sort of universal monsters sort of uh approach. Yeah, well, I love definitely influence.

SPEAKER_09

I love Coraline too. I mean, um, Coraline is directed by Henry Selleck, who directed The Nightmare Before Christmas, which is one of my favourite films, bar none. Yeah. Um, so I wasn't surprised that I enjoyed Coraline. Yeah. Um so yeah, I am. I'm looking forward to it. Watching them, but yeah, Wildwood was another trailer that really caught my eye um this week. Yep. Um I don't know whether there were any other any other trailers. There was there was definitely news. Um we got a uh a date release date um for Vision Quest, yeah. Um the latest uh MCU show. Yes. Um so with Paul Bettney's uh Vision. Um don't know too much else about that, um, other than the fact that there's been rumors about James Spader potential potentially returning as Ultron.

SPEAKER_07

I believe he is. I believe he's playing two parts. He's playing uh there was a trailer that was uh just recently shown. Um and you and so they've sort of given a a bit of a brief on what the trailer was, and James Spader was also a Ultron, but also a human version of uh, you know, just James Spader being James Spada.

SPEAKER_13

Okay.

SPEAKER_07

So I I wonder if it's a bit like um was it ultra what was the uh what was the other show? Wondervision.

SPEAKER_09

So I was gonna say ultravision, but it's I mean it's bound to be a little bit like I mean WandaVision was influenced by Tom King and was it Gabriel Walters um Vision comic series? Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I'm sure that Vision Quest is going to be a little bit influenced by that as well, because that was amazing. Um and one thing that we know from having read that is that um anything's possible. Yeah, like try. I mean it was kind of bonkers, so um in in all the good ways, but um yeah, no, I'm I'm excited about that, and I'm excited that we've got a date because the way that this year is whipping by um October 14 will be here before we know it. Yeah, thank goodness, because we need some more shows. Yeah, that's sarcasm, I hope, because I was just thinking about how much stuff we've we've got in between now and then.

SPEAKER_07

Well, I I just I I'll I'll just keep consuming it, so you just keep bringing it for me.

SPEAKER_09

The next few months is gonna be wild, like with movie releases and I I saw another ad for House of the Dragon today. It's I'm gonna be a busy boy.

SPEAKER_07

We're well, we're getting into that summer season, right, for the US. Yes. Um, and this is this is premiere season now, so um this is the time I look forward to. We get that sort of lull between March and sort of June ish.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Um, we get a few sort of you know, um bite-sized things, but really nothing major until we hit sort of the around the July time, and then it's full steam ahead.

SPEAKER_09

I think um uh the millennials would say it's time to eat. Is that right? I don't know. Did I use that correctly? I don't know. Well, yeah, I don't know why I'm asking you.

SPEAKER_07

I don't well, 25 in my brain, 25-year-old me is going, yes, absolutely.

SPEAKER_09

You know, tell me tell me, listener, is it are we gonna are we should we prepare to eat?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, well, I I I've got my knife and fork and I'm at the table. I'm I'm good to go. He just ruined it.

SPEAKER_09

Anyway, um the other bit of news that I was excited about um as a bit of a romanticy reader is um they've confirmed and announced that uh there's a fourth wing uh series coming from Amazon. Okay. Um Michael B. Jordan, um, of all people is going to be producing it, which I think is a wonderful vote of confidence for that series.

SPEAKER_07

He's a nerd anyway, so he kind of would like those types of things, I would guess.

SPEAKER_09

He knows a good thing when he sees it. He's a good producer. Well, but the the fo the fourth wing books, I've only read the first one, um, and I loved it. Yeah, it was really, really good. Like it's you know, it defin it it definitely fits in the the genre of romanticy and everything that that entails, but um it's a really great story and it's got the potential to be uh visually um spectacular. Um it's full of you know really great um fun characters, yeah. Um dragons of of course. Um so I'm I'm I'm really excited about um that prospect and I I think it's really great that uh Michael B. Jordan's thrown his his weight behind it. Yep. Um because I I just think that that's not something that um you would naturally expect. Um and I I I just think that that's um it's great that it's got his star power behind it.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, that's so cool. I'm I'm looking forward to that. I didn't know about that in you, so that's good good that you brought that to the table. Thank you. Um let's eat.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, let's let's eat. You're not gonna let go of that one, are you? Um the last uh no, actually, there's I've still got quite a bit of news.

SPEAKER_07

You want a word? Yeah, for sure. Let me go, right? Just for a change, all right?

SPEAKER_09

Then just keep it brief.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, sure. Okay, and the end. Thank you. Good note. Um I just wanted to uh to let the listeners know, because this this came across uh for me in our time today, uh something really interesting. Uh that we're getting a uh director's cut of the X-Files I Want to Believe. Okay. Um so it's coming to Disney Plus on June the 11th. Um and it'll be an ultra scary, uncensored movie um that uh Chris Carter wanted to bring to originally but wasn't able to, so we're now getting like a Snyder cut, like a like a Carter's cut.

SPEAKER_09

Like a director's cut.

SPEAKER_07

A director's cut version of it. Um uh it was the way that he wanted to intended it to be.

SPEAKER_09

So well, you're the big X-Files fan on here. What do you think of that?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I think that's wild. I mean, I I mean I enjoyed it for what it was originally. I mean, I saw both of those films in the cinema. Um but there was two of them, wasn't it? There was two, yeah, there was two, two of them.

SPEAKER_09

Um I don't know whether I've seen either of them. I think I might have seen the first one.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I I'm pretty sure you and I actually were in the cinema together to see that one. Yeah, we might have been. Um but that that's um I'm I'm really interested to see what that looks like. And I think that that's a really good way of Disney hyping up the potential for the new um for the new series. So what is it? It's a director's cut of both films? Of just the one film, the first film. The first film. Yeah, I want to believe. So uh so this is this is gonna be really cool because this is this is the time when you know Mulder and Scully really get immersed in the whole alien uh invasion and all the rest of it. So uh this is this is gonna be a good one. And if they're saying that it, you know, Chris Carter's saying that he wanted it to be ultra scary and uncensored, um, I'm really interested to see what that looks like. Yeah. So yeah, that that's uh that was some really awesome news today.

SPEAKER_09

That's a um fun way to sort of prepare people's palettes for the new reboot as well.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, and and I think that that's what Disney's doing. I really do. I think I think that's a great way of saying um Hey Hey, remember X-Files. Yeah, hey, remember X Files. Um while you're while you're at it, um here's a new series coming, you know? Yeah. Um maybe in June, maybe June 11 we might even get a trailer. Ooh, that would be fun. Maybe that would be a great way of what doing a crossover.

SPEAKER_09

I keep meaning to mention that um I've been watching Daniel Deadweiler in Rooster. Oh. Um on HBO Max. Is she good? She is good, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Well we've only watched, I think, maybe two or three episodes of the show.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

But um, she's playing a co-worker of Steve Corell.

SPEAKER_13

Yep.

SPEAKER_09

Um, and yeah, no, she's uh very good, very funny in that. So um it's good, it does have me excited for what she would bring in X-Files. Yeah. Um I guess one of the things that I think people forget about X-Files is that Mulder and Scully had great uh chemistry and also but also comic timing.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

Um, and she's definitely got that down. So awesome. No, I'm uh really excited for to see more of her in X-Files.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, uh anything X-Files related, I'm I'm I'm down for, so um, I think it'll be fun. No. Um comic news. We had uh announcement that uh Mark Wade and uh Chris Samney are combining together to uh to do uh Batman and Robin year one uh dynamic duos. Yes. Um what a what a team that'll be awesome.

SPEAKER_09

We've you've read the first series, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, but it's gonna be great. It's definitely one of the highlights of the last few years in um in comics. Yeah. Um yeah, no, I'm really excited about that too. Especially because they're gonna bring in um Catwoman, the original version of Catwoman.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah. Um to complicate things.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, and I'm sure there'll be other characters they'll bring in as well. I think the the the uh title of dynamic duos implies as much.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

Um but yeah, no, I'm I'm very excited about that. Samny's one of my favourite artists of the last 10-15 years.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

Um, he ignited my love of uh Matt Murdoch Deedevil. Um the the first run that I read was Wade and Samny. Yeah um and so I've read, I mean, I haven't bought anything he's um uh done ever since. I really enjoyed his um Robert Kirkman series, um Firepower, yeah, um, which I don't hear enough people talking about. Um, but it's a really, really good um series with amazing art by Samny. Um yeah, I'm I'm pumped about that.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, it it it um if you want to want to hear some more love about about uh Samney uh you can go and listen to our uh pulp culture plus uh episode with Trev Wood, uh where Trev uh who's an Australian artist uh and doing some awesome work with Gestalt Comics at the moment, uh he talks about his love for Chris Samney as well. So yeah, definitely check out that episode um and uh definitely well worth uh worth there. Keeping on with comic news, I just wanted to uh highlight that uh Scott Snyder was on a podcast this week um and he confirmed that uh Cassandra Kane will be joining the Absolute Universe. Um there's no issue number or or when uh when she will appear, um, but he made it very clear that she will be uh coming into the absolute universe.

SPEAKER_09

That's exciting. She's um a great character, and she's also a character that I think is experiencing a bit of a resurgence fan base-wise at the moment. Um yeah, people are sort of uh clamoring for her version of Batgirl, so um that's really exciting to me. I think she'll fit perfectly into the absolute universe, too.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, and it'll be interesting how they do that too, right?

SPEAKER_09

So but she seems like a character that would thrive in that universe, you know. Um we sort of talk about uh you know how how we perhaps would cope by living in the absolute universe. I'm not said, yeah. Um I'm definitely not sure I will I would not be coping, but um Cassandra King, I think she would thrive. Yeah. Uh Cassandra Kane, sorry, I think she would thrive. Yeah. Uh the reason I said King, by the way, is because I was just um thinking about Tom King. Um because there's there's been a bit of news today um about a new series he's got coming from uh the previously mentioned uh vision creators, um Gabriel Hernandez, Walter, Geordie Belair, and Clayton Cows. They're doing a new series for Dark Horse called Six of Us, which I think sounds really fun.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, okay, what's that about?

SPEAKER_09

Um it's billed as uh something along lines of um uh vision, but also uh an homage to 90s sitcoms. So um the six of us sort of refers to uh the characters in uh a 90s sitcom.

SPEAKER_07

Because there was usually six characters in in most sitcoms during during sort of the late 80s and early 90s.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, like if you want to see this um cover image that they posted, you can go to uh Tom King or Dark Horses Instagrams. Yeah, but I'll show you, Nate. It's got um yeah, five of the characters. Like a friend's sort of all sort of sitting on a like a friend's uh park bench, except uh there's also a chalk outline in front of them. So I think it's gonna be a bit of a dark spin on um ghosts, presumably.

SPEAKER_07

But um But there's a spot in the middle, isn't there? It looks like they've like got their arms around them as well.

SPEAKER_09

It also it sort of looks like someone's fallen off the bench and they've um put a chalk line outline around them and carted them away. But um I'm really excited about that because I love the Marvel uh vision series by Tom King and and and the others. Um and so the thought that they're all getting back to uh do uh uh another comic, um, a six-issue mini-series, so like a nice tight little story too. Um I think is really exciting.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, no, that's very, very cool.

SPEAKER_09

Um it's a long-winded way to explain my um uh Freudian slip when I called Cassandra Kane Cassandra King.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, I thought you were just keeping on with uh the segue into uh comic news, but no, it was no.

SPEAKER_09

I I could I could sit back and say it was a segue, but it was a stuff up.

SPEAKER_07

Alright, I'm not gonna build you up, you were stuff up.

SPEAKER_09

There you go. No.

SPEAKER_07

Uh moving right along, uh, talking about uh interesting news in animation. Uh Scooby-Doo uh is officially getting its first ever anime series. Okay. Um so the anime series is going to be called uh Yokoso Scooby-Doo. Yes. Um and it has Shaggy and Scooby headed across Japan on a new supernatural adventure. What does Yokoso mean? So Yokoso means welcome. Ah, good job of looking it up in a minute. I was I was onto that because I knew you were gonna drill me. So welcome, Scooby-Doo. Yeah, so it's welcome, Scooby-Doo. Yeah, so uh, and it's just gonna be using um you know Japanese folklore for ghosts and ghouls and stuff like that. That'll be excellent. Which I think will be really wild. So um uh just showing uh MJ, the two sort of panels of what it looks like. It's very anime influenced.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, um I think it reminds me of um uh my adventures with Superman.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, and and it's actually by the same team uh by the by the team that do my adventure.

SPEAKER_09

Makes sense. Well both Warner Brothers.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, so um I look I when I first heard about this, I was really unsure.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Um and I I thought it would be sort of catered towards sort of a a a lot of a younger market. Yeah. Um, but I I think this will be right up our alley, and I think we'll be talking about it when it comes out. I I I'm really excited for it.

SPEAKER_09

I'm excited about that. I've done a I mean in in reading a lot more manga the last few years, I've also been reading a lot about um the Japanese uh folklore and and that whole world is fascinating. Yeah, oh um so much wild material um to to draw on for that. So I think that's a real that's a real winner in the making.

SPEAKER_07

If you want to if you really want to know about um, you know, sort of Chinese and Japanese folklore and stuff like that, watch Monkey Magic, do yourself a favour, you can't go wrong. Um you know what's you know what's also cool about about this um this uh this new animated series um with uh Yokoso uh Scooby-Doo is that Matthew Lillard um is back doing the voice of Shaggy. I did hear that. Uh and Frank uh Welker is uh also back doing the voice of um Scooby Scooby. Amazing.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, because he did the voice for the two movies, didn't he? Yeah, yeah. Um and probably animated stuff too. Oh, he's done quite a bit, yeah. He does, yeah. Um no, that's uh wonderful news. Um Matthew Lillard's having a real career resurgence, isn't he? Yeah, absolutely. He needs to get um slagged off by Quentin Tarantino more often.

SPEAKER_07

I I think I yeah, look, I think that's a storm in the key teacup, but anyway.

SPEAKER_09

Um I'm just really excited for Matthew Leward. I loved him in Dead Evil Born Again. I'm really excited to see who he plays in um uh the DCU when he's in Man of Tomorrow. I'm hoping that it's King Faraday, as people have been rumoring. Uh people have been discussing.

SPEAKER_13

Yep.

SPEAKER_09

Um, but yeah, to hear that he's coming back as shaggy as just the icing on the cake.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, for sure. I'm looking forward to it. The only other news that I had was that uh uh circus season two has been delayed again. We're getting it in 2027, early 2027. I did see that. Um, you know, this is this is really bothersome as a fan because it's gonna be four years since the original was uh came out.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Um by the time this is this comes out, this will be the it will be four years. Yeah. Um now I I the the reason given for the delay is that it's very heavily um uh they're in production of doing the visual effects. Okay. Um and it's taking them longer than expected.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Um I think quite a number of months, or maybe not so much that long ago, I think John Favreau was sort of talking about um uh or was it was it John Favreau or was it um what's his name?

SPEAKER_09

Dave Falone.

SPEAKER_07

Uh Dave Falone uh was talking about that Ahsoka 2 is going to be very um there's a lot of battles um in the like space battles. Yeah. Uh so if they're having lots of space battles, I can imagine that that would be very heavily, you know, BFX. Yeah. Uh but yeah, I mean, come on, you know, really, I mean it's just taking forever because uh it was supposed to be released later in the year, and now we've got to wait another six months after that. So um yeah, it's it's definitely taking a time.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, I'm definitely disappointed that it's not coming out uh this year um because I was really looking forward to it. But if I mean for for me and from what I've heard, the the the uh uh visual effects taking longer than um perhaps they planned does check out. Yeah, um there's a lot of uh pressure on visual effects houses in Hollywood, but also globally at the moment because of um the rise of streaming and and uh the demand that there is for um visual effects for movies like uh this, but also like the next Avengers and the Avengers after that. Um and also for I mean, you know, uh the next Star Wars movie, and and that's not even mentioning stuff outside of those two um uh uh storytelling houses, I guess. Um so i i if they're taking a bit more time to get the effects right, I'm okay with it. Like I I'm I'm happy to take that one on face value.

SPEAKER_13

Yep.

SPEAKER_09

Um it like I said, it is disappointing that it's gonna take a bit longer, but if if they're taking a bit longer to get the effects right, I was disappointed by the effects in Captain America Brave New World. I agree. Um there was just a couple of sequences in that that I thought were really glaring. Yep. Um and I don't want to see a repeat, like I saw another shot of uh Henry Cavill in Joss Whedon's version of Justice League uh recently, and that has been giving me nightmares ever ever having seen it ever since having seen it again. Yeah. Um if they're gonna take a bit longer so that the effects houses have got the people to be able to put in the work to get these things right, I'm completely happy with it. Yeah. Because I don't want to see any more of that sort of subpar effects. And it's not because it's not even from my perspective, like but from the artists that uh assemble this sort of stuff, um, I don't want to see it for their sake. Like I I know I know how much uh work goes into these things, I know how many people contribute to these uh visual effects. Yes. I don't want them to I don't I don't want to see them putting out a poor product. Yeah, it's the same as when um you know a a a comic artist needs to take a little bit longer on doing a a chapter of a comic. I know lots of people complain about you know things like um Batman Hush 2 taking a long time to come out or um that sort of thing. Yeah, um I'm always happy to wait because as long as it comes out. As long as it but but not so much, but as long as it comes out and it's at a quality that we're happy with, yeah, but also the creators are happy with, the writers and the artists, and the same goes for visual effects, yeah. Like if they need to take a bit longer, like um the the Star Wars effects get done by ILM as well as as is the way these days, by m a multitude of visual effects houses, not just in Los Angeles, but all over the world.

SPEAKER_07

Well, they're in parts, they give them in parts. So um, just to give you a bit of backstory on on FX, uh, where I used to work, uh, above me was a uh visual effects company. Um and uh I remember that the security on that was so tight because they had a 20-minute part to do visual effects for.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Um and it was for Endgame.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Uh and that was way before Endgame had been released, like years prior. Um, and I remember that they had um uh scanners before they went in, they had security at the door. I accidentally went up in the elevator um and forgot to press my button and went up with the one of the visual effects crew and uh yeah, got got side-eyed from the security as soon as the doors opened because I wasn't recognizable.

SPEAKER_09

They didn't jab you in the next one, but they didn't knock you out.

SPEAKER_07

They had a scan, they had a a full scanner uh, you know, uh metal detector, and they had a um you put your bag on the scanner and it goes through and does the uh does the check and everything. Like the TSA. Yeah, like a TSA. So crazy. It's huge. It was it was massive. But I think that that was because that of the tight security that was involved.

SPEAKER_09

But um, yeah, I mean the security is just a small aspect of what I'm I'm talking about. Anyway, it's like the the the the people that are working on Ahsoka are no doubt going to be the same people that are working on Avengers Endgame.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

And they'll be working on all sorts of other projects. They would have been working on Steven Spielberg's new movie, the name of uh Disclosure Day. Yeah, they would have been working on um you know the next chapter of June that's coming out later. It's all the same companies, yeah. It's not just ILM, but it's all all of the other companies that put that stuff together at the moment. Yeah. If we want the product to be uh tip top, like if we want it to be as beautiful as we expect, and and and we and you know, a lot of people do, and peep people are gonna pick at it. Like if it's not right, yeah, you know that the internet's gonna complain.

SPEAKER_07

Well, we're gonna talk about the Punisher a little bit later, which has been picked apart for a specific scene.

SPEAKER_09

I look forward to that conversation because again, that's news to me. Yeah, but um yeah, I I uh if they have to take a little bit longer to get it right. Like as I said, I'm happy to take it on face value, other than the fact that um, you know, Disney has been laying off a whole lot of people in their art departments. Um well it's the whole it's

SPEAKER_07

It's the whole uh whole animated uh department. It was yeah, I mean those art departments.

SPEAKER_09

Whether that's got anything to do with it, I don't know. But um, you know, I'm happy to take it on face value as long as they're uh it's because they're trying to put in the work to make it right and to give us a product that we're gonna be happy with and that the least number of people possible are gonna bitch about it afterwards, yeah. Um then I'm content for them to wait. But um just get it right. Yeah, just get it right. Just get it right, just get it right. And don't use generative AI.

SPEAKER_07

Take take your time and yeah, just get it right. Yeah, so we're we're we're we're we're both agreement on that one, that's for sure. Yeah. What other news have you got? You got anything else?

SPEAKER_09

Um, the only other bits of news, uh just a couple of other projects that they've announced that are coming out. Um I saw that uh Adventure Time Side Quests, a new series of Adventure Time. Uh and also they're talking about a movie and a couple of other spin-offs as well.

SPEAKER_07

Two two two two films, I believe. Oh no, sorry, a movie and two spin-offs.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, so um I'm really excited that there's more coming from the world of adventure time. I think I've really been enjoying it.

SPEAKER_07

It was going to be one of the spin-offs.

SPEAKER_09

Whatever it is, give it to me. Because it like it's such a rich, um, expansive world. Um, you know, we could spend forever in there, and I hope that we do. So um I'm really excited about that. And the other one is that um uh I'm excited about the potential for a sequel to Young Frankenstein.

SPEAKER_07

Mel Brooks film. Like there's very young, very young Frankenstein film.

SPEAKER_09

Very young Frankenstein, starring Zach Galifanakis and and others, gold. Um, and being produced by Mel Mel Brooks. I'm I'm just so happy for Mel Brooks that he is uh living to see these things at least be launched. Yeah. Um, you know, whether he lasts long enough to see he's a hundred. He's a hundred, yeah. Uh well but whether whether he you know lives long enough to see uh very young Frankenstein actually air on television, because it's going to be a series, yeah. I'm just so pumped that he's getting to see uh Spaceballs 2 happen. I'm pumped that he got to see um History to the World Part 2, which I really loved, um on Amazon, I think it was. Yeah. Um I th I'm I'm just really excited for um you know the great man that he's getting to see all these things happen.

SPEAKER_07

Well the Schwartz is strong.

SPEAKER_09

Well, it it's just it shows how many um you know uh Melbrooks fans there are still out there. Like, I mean what what what he he's sort of provided over the years is you know you could see it as an old style of an old fashioned style of comedy. Yeah. Um, but what we're seeing through these projects is that it's not. It's all really, it's all really very timeless. Yeah. Um and uh yeah, I'm I'm just really excited for very young Frankenstein too.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, no, absolutely. I'm I'm I'm down for that as well. Yep. Uh maybe let's get into the tomb. It's Odad Farr, right? Is that how you pronounce his affair?

SPEAKER_09

I would say Oded Fair, but Odad Fair?

SPEAKER_07

No, I I could be wrong. Well, you know, I'm very wrong at pronouncing anything and everything. So uh there was a uh an image of him uh on horseback in the desert. Yes. Um doing a bit of a uh what would you call that when you when the horse is up on two legs?

SPEAKER_09

I think it's called a wheelie. Um I was gonna say wheelie actually. Yeah, no, I'm pretty sure that's a technical term. You're right, wheelie for horses on two legs. Don't come at me equestrian types.

SPEAKER_07

Let us let us know.

SPEAKER_09

Um but is he doing a wheelie on his horse?

SPEAKER_07

He's doing a wheelie on his horse.

SPEAKER_09

Um yeah, no, showing he's still got it.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, absolutely. Uh, which is great. That's fantastic. Um, and he's also going to be here uh in July um with uh Metro Comic Con. Okay. Uh so it'll be great to uh hopefully we can hear some more news uh coming up about the mummy. He might let something slip. So let's let's hope so. Let's have our fingers crossed. Okay. Um we also uh got confirmation that uh an animated series that I saw uh physical media of a series of two seasons of the mummy, the animated series.

SPEAKER_09

This was a huge surprise to me.

SPEAKER_07

So uh I posted this on the socials um not expecting I I just thought I'd do it for a bit of a laugh because I saw it. And uh wow, what a meltdown. Um it was uh there was a lot of conversation.

SPEAKER_09

Well, I didn't know that it existed for starters.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, neither do I.

SPEAKER_09

Um it's canon, is it?

SPEAKER_07

It is canon, it's it's it's part of the mummy sort of franchise. So it's it's official.

SPEAKER_09

So it's canon, mummy's canon, mummy returns is canon, and mummy three is also canon.

SPEAKER_07

No, it is canon. It's uh it's absolute universe.

SPEAKER_09

It's got jet lee in it, it's canon.

SPEAKER_07

Oh well, it's it's jet lee canon, but not not not the mummy canon.

SPEAKER_09

Well, I'm just here to say that if Jet Lee walks into a Hungry Jax and asks for a a hamburger, yeah, that Hungry Jax is canon. Yeah. Yeah, so if if it's got Jet Li in it, it's canon.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I don't know. But anyway, uh look, he did his best, right? He didn't he he did his best in that film. It was fun. They they all did their best.

SPEAKER_09

I remember very little about it, but I remember it was fun.

SPEAKER_07

It's not that great. Um but uh yeah, look, so we've got this uh this animated series which uh And did you buy it? You've bought it. I have. Yeah, don't don't set me up. I was trying to sizzle it up. You bought it, yeah.

SPEAKER_09

Of course I did, because that's um hopeless.

SPEAKER_07

So so we will be we will be reviewing some of these episodes. So not all of them. Oh, okay, right, okay. No, we're gonna do all of them.

SPEAKER_09

I think it was some 20 something episodes.

SPEAKER_07

Well there's two seasons, right?

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, but I think it was I don't know. Yeah, well, whatever it is.

SPEAKER_07

I think it's more than two more than 20.

SPEAKER_09

Well, however many it is, we are gonna be reviewing these.

SPEAKER_07

Strap in everyone. Uh the mummy animated series podcast will be coming to you soon.

SPEAKER_09

I'm really excited.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, no, it's good. I I've I've actually seen the first episode, it's available on YouTube. Uh, so I watched I watched that and uh yeah, it's fun. It changed a lot. Uh no, it didn't. But but I but uh but I but it was nice to have you know the character content new mummy content.

SPEAKER_09

So because uh it was nice to be uh to know that we've our floundering uh tomb segment's gonna have some more material for floundering, it's not floundering, it's it's definitely it's definitely not dead.

SPEAKER_07

Um but uh but uh you you pointed out that there's quite a number of voice actors in this. Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

I mean I could go on, I could go on for ages, but I mean Rick O'Connell is played by John Schneider, who um you know John Schneider was park hent in Smallville, and he was also in The Dukes of Hazard. Yep. He was one of you know Dem Duke Dem Dem Dukes.

SPEAKER_07

I think it was Bo. Bo yeah, Bo Duke, yeah, but I can't remember.

SPEAKER_09

It was the car that I remember about that one.

SPEAKER_07

The general Lee. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, that's not a you know, it's not A small button it's not but um anyway, uh but uh yeah, also um uh animation or voice over legend Jim Cummings, who's the voice of um Winnie the Pooh, if nothing else. Yep. Um and also I think he's the voice of Hondo Anaka. No, he is the voice of Hondo Anaka um in the animated stuff, and also at Galaxy's Edge. Yep. Um he's Imotet, which I'm dying to hear. Yeah, he's good. Um it's got uh Grey Delisle, who's um uh famous from uh voicing characters like Wonder Woman um and all sorts of other stuff. Um she's playing Evie, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Um and picked her straight away.

SPEAKER_09

Picked her straight away. She's she was good. She's an icon. Yeah. Um uh Tom Kenny, um, who is Spongebob SquarePants and also the Ice King from Adventure Time, yep, um, is playing Jonathan, so Evie's brother.

SPEAKER_07

And he does a really good Jonathan, actually. Um yeah, I I I didn't when when you told me about this, yeah I I I was surprised because I didn't pick him um to doing that voice. Yeah. Um it was only afterwards when I found out from you, I was like, oh okay, uh he's good.

SPEAKER_09

As talented a voice actor as there is, yeah. He's the best.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. Um he's done a lot, but everybody pigeonholes him into that SpongeBob you know, because he's done it for so long, right? It's like it's iconic. It's iconic.

SPEAKER_09

And 100 years after he's gone, yeah, um, SpongeBob will endure and part of that's because of his voice performance.

SPEAKER_07

So bit like Bug Spunny, right?

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, totally, yeah. Um, and the other one that I've noticed um is uh Unk Sunamoon um is voiced by Lenore Zahn, who we know as Rogue from uh the X-Men animated series and X-Men 97. Um she's also been out in Australia recently for on the con circuit. Yes. Um she wasn't in the first episode. No, well, I can't imagine she's probably in every episode, but um we might get her in season two. Yeah, maybe. Um, but I'm really excited about that. Um I can't wait to get a hold of my physical media that I've ordered from JB Hi-Fi. Yep. Um, so we can watch every episode and r review the stories and the voice performances and the animation, which I'm sure is absolutely top-notch.

SPEAKER_07

It's right up there with the real Ghostbusters.

SPEAKER_09

Oh, look, I'm salivating just for the thoughts.

SPEAKER_07

It's it's definitely an it's definitely uh, you know, that that early sort of animation production of the 90s, and you know, um, yeah, it's it's definitely there.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, as much as I kid, I'm just really excited to have this as uh part of our build-up to the mummy four. Yes. Um when it comes out. I I think that this couldn't have c come along in a better time.

SPEAKER_07

Well, we hope that we've got more exciting news for you uh regarding the mummy four um uh coming up.

SPEAKER_09

Um if not we'll have episode reviews.

SPEAKER_07

But we'll have episode reviews regardless, and we'll just keep this uh mummy four uh Australia's number one uh The Mummy podcast. Yes, uh going.

SPEAKER_09

Um so but that's it for the tomb. 28, 9, 20, 30 episodes, 30 weeks running.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah. Uh killing it. Guess what? What? It's time for the weird files.

SPEAKER_09

Okay. No, uh actually, I'm excited. Yeah, you should be. Yeah, I am. I'm excited again. This is the second week in a row, I'm excited.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, it should be. It's it's it's a good one.

SPEAKER_09

Not because of last week's one, but because of the one before the rest of the year.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Uh look, I I I I've I've got one there's a slim chance that this will be entertaining. Yeah. Look, I I I think uh I I think you might like the the these ones. Okay.

SPEAKER_09

Well, I've I've got you to choose from. I and the listeners will be a judge the adjudges of that.

SPEAKER_07

The dealer has chosen three, uh, but I'm going to offer you one of the three. Right. After our conversation last week. Okay, we've got Tarco Smuggler. We have That sounds potentially risky. Kanye Concert Air. Or we have solar powered dryer. Solar powered dryer.

SPEAKER_09

Kanye concert air.

SPEAKER_07

As in the air.

SPEAKER_09

Not the air to the concert.

SPEAKER_07

Uh and taco smuggler. So uh was the last one again? Yeah, it was uh solar powered dryer.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, I want that one.

SPEAKER_07

Good choice. Excellent choice.

SPEAKER_09

Is this just about clotheslines?

SPEAKER_07

Wait, you just you just uh you know, just sit back, relax, and enjoy the the the goodness that is the weird file. I just accidentally spoiled it, you know. You know, you you'll just have to come on, bring it on. Unfortunately, it's not a Florida man.

SPEAKER_09

No, that's okay.

SPEAKER_07

Sorry, sorry to interrupt.

SPEAKER_09

There's idiots, there's idiots everywhere.

SPEAKER_07

Sorry to interrupt your regular Florida manager. Do we know where he's from? Sorry. Uh let's give someone else grief. Uh I it actually doesn't say. Oh, okay. Uh, but we have a man who went viral after selling a so-called solar-powered clothes dryer for $49. Bargain. Only for customers uh to discover that they had received nothing more than a simple clothesline rope. Okay. Solar powered.

SPEAKER_09

This is not our uh invisibility cloak guy, is it?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I think it is. I'm pretty sure it is, right? He's back on the loose. The production description sounded futuristic and innovative, leading many buyers to believe that they were purchasing some kind of advanced eco-friendly drying device. Yep, nice. Instead, the package contained a basic rope designed to dry clothes using sunlight and fresh air.

SPEAKER_09

What a smart ass.

SPEAKER_07

What a great one. The internet exploded with reactions, with some calling it genius marketing and others accusing it of uh misleading advertising. The bizarre the bizarre story quickly became another reminder of how creative wording can completely change the way that people see an ordinary product.

SPEAKER_09

Do you know I've got a particularly advanced version of that in my backyard?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, it's got a Hills Hoist.

SPEAKER_09

It is called a Hills Hoist. Yeah, well done.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. So uh what what what astounds me? $49 for customers to discover. Customers, not just one, but there's obviously multiple.

SPEAKER_09

I bet there was um postage on top of that too.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I bet there was. But uh look, you know, it's a very simple uh weird files, but I I I really dug that one. It's right up there with the invisibility quote, right?

SPEAKER_09

I think we've found our second sponsor.

SPEAKER_07

The the the gull the gullibility of people, right? Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

So uh get in touch with this uh buddy when you get out of prison.

SPEAKER_07

Maybe he can resonate golden corals.

SPEAKER_09

So uh we'll talk about advertising opportunities on the pub culture podcast.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, absolutely. But uh that's that's another fun one from uh the weird file.

SPEAKER_09

Love it.

SPEAKER_07

Alright, uh let's get into actually, you know what, we're gonna mix it up today. Let's get into the uh one one thing that we didn't feature last week, which uh you could possibly be. Yeah, it's um you know, everyone's favorite uh segment, new new segment called the Moss Isley mailbag.

SPEAKER_09

Oh wow, yeah. We didn't forget that last week, didn't we?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, tell us tell us what the uh deformed toaster wearing uh Pee Wee Herman suit is doing this week.

SPEAKER_09

Alright. Okay, be nice to be nice to old Cyril, please.

SPEAKER_07

Okay.

SPEAKER_09

Um well this week uh we're gonna get into another issue of this Return of the Jedi magazine. Um this one has a spectacular cover. Oh Billy D. Yeah, Billy D uh wearing his uh Return of the Jedi um Jabber's Sail barge uh uniform. So he's in disguise as a guard or a bounty hunter or something.

SPEAKER_07

Can I can I just say that there's a um uh we posted it on our socials, it's it was on our story, so it's probably gone now by the time you listen to this. Yeah, there's a uh uh the uh film crew filming um the launch of Empire Strikes Back characters um as as figures, and they're interviewing um I'm guessing the manager of the toy store or whoever, and he's going through the who through each of the figures. Yes, and he gets to um Landau Calrusium and he goes, This is Lando Carwas. Lando Carwas. I'm not too sure what he does, but yeah, he's in this film. Um and then he goes back to Hahn and Luke and Leia and everybody else, but he calls him Lando Lando Ka Carwas.

SPEAKER_09

Well look, it's I mean it's a tricky old name. Yeah. Calrusium. Calrisian. Like if you haven't heard it before. That is funny though.

SPEAKER_07

But he is but this this this is a great picture of him in uh in his uh what was it? It was Jubba's Palace Guard. Is that what he was?

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, is that it was he was in disguise, um Ahim and Chewy having gone off to rescue Han. Yep, um, yeah, wearing his uh it was one of my favourite action figures back in the day. Oh yeah, for sure. I mean, partly because it had a helmet that came off. I always I always loved the few characters that had a helmet and helmets to remove because most of the early ones didn't have that by the time of the Return of the Jedi came out, there was at least Lando and probably a couple of others that I'm forgetting. Yeah, but um yeah, now Lando's on the uh front cover of this issue. It's um issue number 63, yeah. 1st of September 1984. Um there's an ad for a Star Wars uh jigsaw puzzle competition on the front. Okay, um which is uh just by the by. That's uh got nothing to do with the letters we're gonna look at. Puzzlers get excited, yeah. Yes, uh puzzles are always excited, yeah, because there's always another puzzle to do. Yeah, there's no reason they've always got a reason to be puzzled.

SPEAKER_07

Never ending, never ending puzzle. Totally.

SPEAKER_09

Uh so uh I've got a couple of letters to read out of this one. Oh yes, so we're gonna read two letters out of these ones. Um uh the first one uh oh here's Cyril, by the way. Can you see what's on his feet?

SPEAKER_07

Oh, he's now wearing roller skates. He is nothing that this the form toaster can do.

SPEAKER_09

No, he's he's he's working in the mail room, so he's got roller skates on so that he can run around the uh the Marvel UK uh offices. Make him look like he's busy, but he's not really um yeah, so we'll I'll post a picture of that on our socialists. Yeah, get excited. Yeah, people will be excited.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, it's is he wearing his uh Pee Wee unit Pee Wee Herman No, absolutely.

SPEAKER_09

He looks like he's wearing a uh like a posty uh hat.

SPEAKER_07

Ah, he's really trying to look like the part and and nothing else.

SPEAKER_09

He's carrying a big bag of post. He's a naked robot. Yeah, he actually does have a sort of come hither look in his eye. Not quite sure what's going on there.

SPEAKER_07

What's going on? That's I told you. He's a form toaster.

SPEAKER_09

Anyway, moving on. Getting feelings. Um first letter. Dear Cyril, I have collected your comic for about two years now. Oh, and I think it is great. I think that Return of the Jedi gives you good value for money. That's the magazine. Oh. I mean, the movie clearly gives you good value as well. Absolutely. We're still talking about it 90 years later. Yes. Um I think that Return of the Jedi magazine gives you good value for money because it gives you a long read. I have made a chart to show how long Jedi takes to read compared to other comics. Oh. He's got a breakdown. And I think this is partly funny because well, fun, because it refers to a whole lot of old UK kids' magazines. Oh. Um, when it's comparing uh how much value it gets out of Jedi. So Return of the Jedi magazine, 37 minutes. Right. Beano, you remember Beano? I remember Beano. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

It was kind of uh it was kind of like Dennis the Menace, wasn't he? Well Dennis the Menace was one of the cartoons. I love Beano.

SPEAKER_09

I love those Beano Angels. Uh Beano, 10 minutes. Yeah. Not nearly as good value. Um Topper. Haven't heard of Topper. 16 minutes. Nutty. Haven't heard of Nutty? No. 18 minutes? Sounds a bit nutty. It's good value compared to Vino, though. Yeah, yeah. Uh Buster magazine? That sounds familiar. I think it's a dog.

SPEAKER_07

No, was it? I think it was a dog.

SPEAKER_09

Maybe anyway, uh pretty pretty relatively good value compared to Vino. It's 20 minutes. So um was it spelt with an A or an E R? What a Buster. Yeah. E R.

SPEAKER_13

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_09

British spell things incorrectly. Anyway, give it on. Anyway, uh so that's the breakdown, yeah. And uh, but then um this letter's from uh gold leader who lives on Endor, apparently. Right. And he throws in a joke at the end. You want to hear the joke? Oh okay. Okay uh what did Darth Vader say when his car broke down? The Empire hikes back. That's great. Alright, next letter. How old was he? It doesn't say. Oh wow he's gold leader though, he's uh lived long enough to advance to the be the leader of his own. What was gold leader? Was that A-Wings, Y-Wing Squadron?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. It was the best.

SPEAKER_09

I don't know. Tell us, listeners. Everybody wanted to be part of that. Someone get onto Wikipedia and tell me what Gold Squadron was.

SPEAKER_07

Just so everybody knows, Buster was a uh like another Dennis the Menace character.

SPEAKER_09

Okay.

SPEAKER_07

Um publication was between 1960 to 2000. So yeah.

SPEAKER_09

It wasn't a spin off of Bino, was it?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, it wasn't a spin-off of Bino. No, they had 1,902 issues. Wow, that's huge. Oh wow.

SPEAKER_09

Um so yeah, it's a lot of peas for the kids to spend.

SPEAKER_07

A lot of pee. What other stories have you got for us in the bag?

SPEAKER_09

Well, we've got another letter, so I'll get straight into it because you love that first one so much. Yeah, no. Uh dear Cyril, I recently won a drawing competition, the prize being a lunch with Darth Vader. What? There were nine of us, and we all had our photos taken with him. Afterwards, David Prouss changed out of his costume and sat down and told us jokes. Get out. We were allowed to ask him all the questions we wanted, so I thought I'd share the information with the readers. Oh, oh, inside. So the implication of this is that this kid, uh Lucille, no reason to doubt Lucille. Yeah, David Prouse was English, uh, an English actor. Um the legend, ROP. Um so this is totally believable and l and potentially legit.

SPEAKER_07

David Prouse wasn't wearing the Darth Vader yet.

SPEAKER_09

How cool would that be can you imagine? Yeah. Can you imagine going to like a function and doing a drawing competition and getting to meet the proper Darth Vader?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, that's pretty cool. With the kids going, hey, your voice sounds different. Yeah, probably.

SPEAKER_09

His voice did sound very different. Have you heard those on onset bits when they're very different? Yeah, he's very English. Go back and watch the behind the scenes. Very regal, isn't he, when he speaks? So uh yeah. No, he was he was he was a proper proper actor. Yes. Uh okay, these are the these are the facts that Lucille uh Gibbons from from Maidstone um gathered. Uh asked in a little chat with David Prouss. Excellent. Uh David Prouss is about six foot seven inches. Yes. Correct. He has a 50-inch chest. Oh. Takes size 12 shoes. Oh, okay. That's big in anyone's shoe shoe language. Did she have a tape measure with her on the day?

SPEAKER_07

And she said, Can I measure your chest and your feet? No, well she would have asked him. Oh, okay. Right. Okay. She's a journalist. Yeah. Investigative journalist. Yeah, maybe.

SPEAKER_09

Excellent. Good job. Uh he was British heavyweight champion of 1962, 1963, and 1964. That's also, I believe, true.

SPEAKER_07

I I I can believe that. I mean he choked out that guy with the force, so you know, if he can do that, then he did that in the ring back in the 60s? Hands down, for sure. That was like his signature move. If you had it in your wheelhouse, you'd use it wouldn't be.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah. That'd take out Danhausen. No way. No. No one can take Danhausen down. Yeah, well, I'd I'd love to see that match. Danhausen versus Darth Vader.

SPEAKER_07

Wouldn't that be great? Uh if we were fans of the AI, I'm sure we could get that happening, but I don't want that.

SPEAKER_09

Well we are not fans of the AI.

SPEAKER_07

But we're not, and we don't want that. Because it's evil and it crushes creativity. Yeah, well Darth Vader made well the Emperor created AI, so there you go. Bastard. Yeah, we hate him.

SPEAKER_09

Um moving on. Uh because of his size, David Proust this is, uh most of his suits cost 400 to 500 pounds. Ooh, that's expensive back in the day. And that's the end of um Lucille's facts about David Proud.

SPEAKER_07

Great investigative journalism there.

SPEAKER_09

But what I love about that is again, we're seeing another example of what it was like back in the day. When celebrities were part of the fabric, right?

SPEAKER_07

It sounds like it's a like a school thing or just a face or maybe maybe it was like a competition that they won and they got to I mean they had conventions back in those days.

SPEAKER_09

So maybe maybe it was one of those. But still, like the thought that you could have him there, you know, potentially what was he, judging the colouring competition and then sitting down and chatting with the kids afterwards, like gold. Yeah, absolutely. I reckon that's awesome. Amazing. One last thing. Yes. We talked about the uh back of these magazines and the ads that they had on them. We talked about the Ghostbusters International Fan Club or whatever it was. Oh yes. I I I've written away for that one. Have a look at what's on the back of this one. Oh you'll love this as a toy guy. Oh yeah, this is a good one. So this is great. This is an ad that says uh keep a rancor Rancor Keeper free. Keep a Rancor Keeper free. So this harkens back to the old days when you'd buy action figures and you'd send away like the barcodes or whatever, or the little um uh cutout bits on the packets, and they'd send you a free figure.

SPEAKER_07

This was to stop people from keeping them in box, because at that stage people had started keeping them in box, and and so they thought, uh, here's a good way of stopping, you know, them preserving the perfect and they wanted people to kids to play with them. When I was a kid.

SPEAKER_09

So they wanted you to destroy the packet. In 1984, you could not have uh paid me to keep my action triggers in. I wanted to play with them. I agree. Um, but still, uh yeah, I love this. Uh, I'm just gonna read the details in the back because I think it's it's awesome. And and and like I said, it's a bit of a uh time machine back to 1984 and what it was like to be a fan back in those days. We've opened the capsule. Yeah. Um even a ferocious Rancor monster needs someone to watch over him and be his friend. So here's your chance to get a Rancor keeper free. All you have to do is simply buy any six action figures, no problem, easy, and cut out the names from the front of the packs. Send the six names with your name, age, and address, together with a check or postal order in favour of the palatoy company in the sum of 33p to cover the cost of postage. Two Now don't do this because uh clearly it won't last, but I'm just gonna read it anyway because it's charming. Um, rank or keeper offer, P.O. Box 534, Erdington, Birmingham. Hang on, what was the suburb again? I'm just writing that down. I'm not reading it again, because I don't need you bothering whoever lives and works there now.

SPEAKER_07

I'm gonna give them 35p for inflation, and I think I'm good.

SPEAKER_09

There's probably nobody there, it's probably just like AI data banks or something.

SPEAKER_07

What was the address again? I just need that address again.

SPEAKER_09

Applications must reach us by January 31st, 1985.

SPEAKER_07

Alright. Uh I've got a friend who's got a DeLorean, so maybe I can, you know. Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

As Homer Simpson says, you never know when it's going to be 1986 again. Um, but I just think that's awesome. Again, I will post the picture because the um Oh, the picture's cool. Well, the artwork's quite cool.

SPEAKER_07

And and you know what, you're right. You couldn't get the Rancor keeper. You can get the Rancor, but you couldn't get the Rancor keeper.

SPEAKER_09

Well, Rancor keeper was one of those figures that was sort of outside the regular dimensions, if you know what I mean. Yeah. Because he was a bit of a head. He was a portly guy. It was like, I mean, because I always loved the Gamorion Guard figure when we finally got him because he was he was to scale. Yeah. He was bigger than most figures, which I thought was unique and fun. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Um and and he is topless and he is wearing a tea tail on his head. So, you know, he always I think he's wearing his top on his head.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Um well part of it. His head was obviously cold, but he's but he did love the rankl.

SPEAKER_09

Boobs weren't. He did like he did love the rankl. Yeah, he loved him to death. Yeah. Literally. Yeah, he did. Do you know what his um his real name was?

SPEAKER_07

Um what what is what was his name?

SPEAKER_09

Malakilly. Oh, Malakili. Yeah, you don't need to go to Wikipedia for that one. I gotcha.

SPEAKER_07

Good to good to know.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, Malakili, that was his name. The Rancor Keeper. You can call him the Rankle Keeper too, though, because Yeah, yeah. He clearly took a lot of pride in his top.

SPEAKER_07

Killy's not not the greatest name to be a Rank or Keeper, though, is it? Oh, come on.

SPEAKER_09

And on that downer, we end this week and last week's episode of Moss Eyes the Mailbag.

SPEAKER_07

That was good. That was good. I enjoyed that. Yeah, good. I did enjoy that.

SPEAKER_09

And more next week.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. Uh let's get into the aisle.

SPEAKER_15

A spectacular network first. Let's go to my place. Superman of Love. Loses his powers. And battles to save the Earth. Gene Hackman. Michael Kidder. Christopher Reed. We have a special Superman.

SPEAKER_02

The defender of the universe. It's badly the most powerful epic. Support the Voltron Force weekday morning today. That's the back of the U adventure each day, right here on U28.

SPEAKER_07

All right. What have you been reading?

SPEAKER_09

Uh well, I've been reading quite a lot while I've been away.

SPEAKER_07

You have been reading quite a lot.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, no, uh, as I mentioned earlier, I've been away for a week, and producer Kim and I have been away for a week um relaxing. Yes. And one of the things I do when I relax is I read. You read. Um so I've been catching up on a bunch of uh comic book series. Yep. Um uh stuff that had been sort of down my uh reading pile for a while. Um I've almost caught up completely on Geiger. Oh um from Image.

SPEAKER_07

Are you excited that they're gonna be releasing action figures for Geiger?

SPEAKER_09

I am.

SPEAKER_07

That will be cool as.

SPEAKER_09

I didn't know that, but I am Todd McFarlane is producing them.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, perfect.

SPEAKER_09

Um I I love Geiger, yeah. Like it's such a great series, and when I when I do get to a bunch of issues of those in my reading pile, yeah, it's always a great time. Um, and I'm loving it. Um the art by Gary Frank is obviously a highlight. Um, he's one of my favourite artists of all time. Um, there's been a few issues uh in this run that have not been illustrated by him because I know that his art is very difficult to keep up on a monthly basis. We know this from previous series and and other stuff. Um, you know, it's but I don't mind that um because it's always at such a high standard. And the stand-in artists that they had were actually they were quite good. Yeah. Um I didn't think it detracted too much from the story at all. Um but I'm really loving uh Geiger. Um I've only got a couple of issues left and I'll be completely caught up. Another series that I've been catching up on because I've been talking with people in the comic shop about these, and I've been not feeling not feeling bad that I haven't read them, but I I want to be able to talk to them about them. So I've been deliberately catching up on Superman. Yep. Um the Williamson Mark uh Dan Moore stuff. Um there's also been some art by Eddie Barrows, who I love. Um he's one of my favourite artists too. Um I'm caught up with those now. So I'm I've been reading the Superboy Prime issues, which have been the last sort of two issues have been dedicated Superboy Prime issues. So much fun. Um lots of breaking the fourth wall, uh great art by Dan Moora, um, some great uh dialogue between um Superboy Prime and uh Lois Lane, um, but also some really great character development for Superboy Prime too. Um he's a anti-hero with lots of red in his ledger, if you know what I mean. Yep. Um lots of like Red Hood. Very much like Red Hood, and he actually makes that reference himself um in one of the issues. That'd be a good team up, actually. They would. Well, I don't know whether they'd be good for each other though. I think it'd I think it'd be a fun read though. It'd be a fun read, but they'd be bad influence on each other.

SPEAKER_07

I reckon. Yeah, throwing Deadpool and end the universe. Jumping in a Cadillac and driving a you know, Las Vegas.

SPEAKER_09

Now I want a Deadpool um Red Hood Superboard Prime crossover. Make it happen, Marvel and DC. Yeah, do it. Um yeah, but I I've really been enjoying those. Um so that's been fun. And the other one that I'm catching up on, although I haven't caught up on it yet, is Transformers.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, so I've got uh 31 to read, I think it is 31 and 32 still to read.

SPEAKER_09

Well, I think I'm up to about 23. Oh, you're getting into the good stuff, yeah. So the last few issues in particular have been amazing. Yeah, you're getting getting into the meaty stuff. Yeah, some really great story, and uh, I know that we've got Danmore art um to look forward to soon. Yes. Um 20 after 25, so yeah. Um I'm gonna persist with those and try and catch up, and then I'm gonna get on to G.I. Joe. Yeah, yeah. I've got I'm I'm I'm actually behind in G.I. Joe now, so I need to get back onto that. Yeah, no, I've I've sort of elevated them up my reading pile. I've I did actually take them away with me, but I didn't get to them. I didn't want to be reading Transformers and G.I. Joe at the same time. Um, but once I've caught up with uh Transformers, I will jump into the Joe's.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, um one uh one book I've read that you haven't yet, um, and you'll probably do it um during this week coming is I will um Green Arrow Absolute Green Arrow. Yes. Now this is uh Pontac Pinochet, is that right? Is that how you pronounce his name?

SPEAKER_09

Uh I think it's pretty close. I'm not sure I'm not entirely sure, but it sounds pretty right, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Uh Raphael Albuquerque. Yeah and uh this is this is a great book. I'm so excited to I have one issue with this book. And it's at the at the inside page when when it does the introductory of the team, yeah, uh it has the words no trick arrows, no mercy, absolute hunter. The problem I have with that is that this is false advertising. And I just want to I just want to just point this out to DC that no trick arrows, there is plenty of trick arrows in this book. Right. Right? So don't tell me that there's no trick arrows, because that's gonna put me off straight away. Okay, gonna be careful of spoilers here, by the way. There's no trick arrow is a trick arrow, right? I'm not telling you what type of trick arrows, just get excited for it. Okay, but it says no trick arrows, lies. Don't lie to me, just give it to me straight. All right? Take it out and just have no mercy, absolute hunter. I would have been happy with this.

SPEAKER_09

Just for the record, DC, you can lie to me as much as you like.

SPEAKER_07

Absolutely not. No trick arrows, there is definitely trick arrows in this. I just want to point that out. Don't don't be swayed by by not wanting to read the book because there's no trick arrows in it. There is, guaranteed. This is a great book, it is really well written. Um one thing I will say, I'm not gonna give anything away. Um, we we we don't know who the green arrow is, all right? We don't know it's never and they've been on the record about saying that they're not going to reveal who the green arrow is.

SPEAKER_09

I mean it's potentially spoilery, but do you still not know, having read the first issue? No, I don't.

SPEAKER_07

Okay, no, I definitely don't know. And and I and I really like that. What this does remind me of, and I don't remember I don't know if you remember it, listen to some of the listeners may, yeah. Um, is was there was an image title called Shadow Hawk um that came out. Um I think it was was it Mark Silvestri or Dan Pinocian or something? One of those, it might even be Dan Pinocian, actually, now I think about it. I don't remember. Um and and it was about a uh uh a hero who was it was a bit like he was a bit like Batman, but he was more of a vigilante and you'd kill people, you know, you would you you wouldn't sort of mess around. Wasn't a Marvel series, was it? No, no, no. It was definitely a um an image an image series. Okay. And um and you didn't know who Shadowhawk was for I can't remember how many how many issues. Okay. And you had um sort of a a a rogues gallery of people that you thought might be that that that character, but there was nothing really pointing towards who it was. So it was it was kind of a mystery this whole way through.

SPEAKER_09

How long because this is a six-issue mini-series, green arrow, isn't it? How long do you think are they gonna hold on to it?

SPEAKER_07

I I reckon they'll hold on for four issues as as high as long as they possibly can. Okay. Um they give us they give us sort of a rogue of who it might be. Um but uh yeah, I love this. I love the fact that we didn't get that that introduction of who is behind the mask. Um they are definitely brutal and they're not holding back by any means at all.

SPEAKER_09

It's kind of fun, isn't it? Because it's like, I mean, one of the tropes of superhero comics in the past, not so much now, but um, is the secret identity.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

And the thought of having a story where we're kept out of that loop for a while is intriguing to me.

SPEAKER_07

Black Canary is awesome. Yeah, 100% flawed. She's got some major issues going on, like all they do, like they all do in absolutes. Yeah. Um, but I really like where she's going, who she's working with. Um she looks amazing. Yeah, she's she's she's um jacked. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. I mean, she's a she's she's a security consultant. That's her that's her role.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Um, so she needs to be jacked. Um so yeah, she's she she's really, really cool. And it's it's gonna be, you know, I mean, we still have the the tie of of Diane. It's Diane, isn't it? Diane? What's it um Black Canary? What's her name? Dinah uh Dinah. Sorry, Dinah. Um so we have Dinah. Um, we have a history between Dinah and Ollie. Um, it's very clear that Ollie has been Oliver Queen has been murdered. Yeah. Um, and that was back in the uh absolute dark absolute evil. I was gonna say dark, but same thing. Yeah. Um, and uh so so you know there is a a a callback to that. Um but yeah, this is this is gold. This is another really, really, really good book.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, I can't wait. It's um, you know, I'm back in the comic book shop on Sunday, and um, yeah, as soon as I'm on the tram after work that day, yeah, I'll be reading absolute green arrow. I can't wait.

SPEAKER_07

Oh yeah, it's um I I would say read it in the store. Um, you know, just get paid to read. You're trying to get me sacked. No, definitely not. You because you need to do market research so that you can talk to the customers. Uh product knowledge. Yes, there you go. Product knowledge.

SPEAKER_09

No, um I'll be reading it on the tram on the way home. Come on, Mitch and Troy. We're 110% focused on my customers and my duties.

SPEAKER_07

Hook an MJ up.

SPEAKER_09

We'll see, we'll see how we go.

SPEAKER_07

You got anything else that you have you've been reading that you wanted to talk about?

SPEAKER_09

I've been reading quite a bit, and I have to admit, like we we were in um Mansfield this week. Um, I went into the bookshop shout out to in the high street. Yep. Um and I went in there, I think I've lost count of how many times. Two or three. Was it like cheers?

SPEAKER_07

And they went, hey, MJ. No, they went, Hey, it's another sucker. Although they hang on, enter uh cash register here.

SPEAKER_09

Um I uh yeah, I I did buy four books. Right. Um I really like I really like their ancient history section, so I bought books on ancient Greece and Rome and stuff.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, awesome.

SPEAKER_09

Um but yeah, I've been reading bits of those and other pieces, but um those are sort of the highlights.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. Well maybe uh maybe last week we we talked about I'd I'd read Ben 10, um uh which is very few that have probably read it in Australia.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, and I've since realised that I can't read it in any form. Yeah. Like we can't get it. We mentioned last week that I can't get it physically because of a rights issue. Um, and I also can't get it digitally. So I I through through illegal means.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, legally through through legal legal means through legal means. So as as I said last week, I was gonna put on the uh Detective Cal and uh do a little bit of investigation. I sent you some of the some of what I what I discovered, and you thought it was worthy of having a chat about it.

SPEAKER_09

How'd you go, Detective Chimp?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, it's so Detective Chimp. I was gonna say Batman, but oh gee, we is here. Well, you know, Detective Chimp is is classified as the greatest detective in the DC universe.

SPEAKER_09

Okay.

SPEAKER_07

So I'm gonna go with that. Thank you.

SPEAKER_09

Spit it out, Bobo.

SPEAKER_07

So uh the issue with um with and I've just made some notes here. So the issue with the new Benten comic is that it's published by Dynamite Entertainment, um, which was released in May the 6th of uh this year. Yeah. Um and in Australia it's a matter of territory licensing restrictions rather than the legal dispute between companies.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

So while Dynamite has the license to publish uh Ben 10, that license is currently only restricted to North America. Okay, right. So they can only publish the comic in North America. So it's not just Australia that's got issues with uh with um getting this book. So it's globally.

SPEAKER_09

So it's globally, but mind you, they've sold 86,000 of these of this book, this first issue, which is well the first run has sold out, which is part of what where the problem is, because there's been lots of publicity surrounding that, and therefore everybody's been wanting to get a copy, myself included.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, and so obviously this has caused significant hurdles um for for other countries. Yeah, so the geographic block. So Dynamite Entertainment does not hold the rights to uh distribute or sell Ben 10 IP in the Australian market, right? Um, and this is commonly uh this is a common situation with our friends at Warner Brothers. So Warner Brothers Discovery, um, it's a property of theirs, um, and the license uh and they have the license to be sold region by region. Um and so because that uh WBD has that dedicated global consumer products arm uh for Australia and New Zealand, they often withhold comic rights, there you go, from the US publishers to potentially license them to a local international partner. Now that's an interesting one, right? You know, they've they've got this property, they've allowed dynamite to produce it in the US, but they're withholding it in other countries, which bears no um profit for them at all. Like they don't get any money in so they're just holding on to something for no reason. It doesn't make sense, right?

SPEAKER_09

Well, yeah, they uh I mean possibly it it they've decided that it's not gonna it's not enough money for them to bother with.

SPEAKER_07

I don't know. I don't know. Anyway, I don't know. Um so so here's where where it gets interesting, right? So we've got cancellation of what they call ghost orders, and uh and I think I explained the ghost order to you um separately. Um so the biggest issue um you like that, the biggest issue.

SPEAKER_09

Uh the biggest issue, just keep moving on with this depressing story.

SPEAKER_07

Cited by fans recently involves uh Dynamite's own web store. Dance might be dance. So silent com uh cancellations. Many Australians who successfully placed pre orders for the comic in early 2026 found that their orders were. either cancel without notification or controversially they uh controversially uh were sorry can you say that one more time no definitely not had their had their shipping addresses silently changed from Australia to United States uh in the system to comply with licensing software right uh refund delays there have been numerous reports in the Australian comic community of fans struggling to get refunds for their cancelled out of territory orders leading to significant frustration all right so that's that's a that's a real that's a real downer right you've you paid for something you can't get it but you're also not getting a refund for it either which I think is a little bit wrong right yeah uh retailer restrictions so yeah yeah your LCS's of the world so your local comic book shops um uh across Australia cannot order the series through their standard wholesale channels which uh such as um you know the the the usals right and penguin and lunar and stuff so this is where we're getting what they call a gray market import okay so to get copies for consumers some Australian shops are forced to gray market import them essentially buying them at retailer prices from the US forced and then shipping them over right and then as a result we're getting inflated prices so because of these shipping costs and the lack of the wholesale discount um the cover price for a single issue Ben 10 issue number one in Australia has ballooned between anywhere between $15 and $24 an issue. I think that's gone up since I actually did this research. I wouldn't be surprised I've seen it online now for $150. So stupid um the original cover price is $3.99 US which is what about seven bucks or eight bucks? Right so there you go. Now this is the interesting part now I said that I'd read this and I read it through Comixology I use a VPN so when I use my VPN I'm reading it from the US because the restriction also extends to digital platforms which is what you were talking about. You can't read it either no because I am not clever enough to know about VPNs yeah so and yes okay uh many Australian readers have found that the title geo blocked on uh digital comic storefronts meaning that there is currently no official way to read the series in Australia or around the world without using a VPN or um resorting to the secondary market of physical copies. So I've read this through a VPN through the US channel of uh the Comixology app so that's how I I was able to consume it this is terrible this is a terrible um sign of what's happening the interesting part about all of this research that I did is I heard this week that they're changing the name of Ben 10 so the creators of Man in action they still own the rights to um the the name Ben 10 yeah um and uh and certain parts of the property but they're talking about now changing the the book to something else to get around this this this licensing issue.

SPEAKER_09

So if they publish if the creators publish it under a different name then they'd be able to release it.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah so ultra omnitrix if they called it ultra omnitrix or something like that which they have rights to but then they get around well we'll see if they get around that we'll see if that happens.

SPEAKER_09

So I'm just hoping that at some stage down the track they'll release it as a trade or something that that we can sell here and people can dig in because um yeah I like a lot of other people are really excited to to read this issue. Through legitimate means um because uh yeah it's a property that we remember fondly and and I'm I'm really pumped for it.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah yeah I mean it looked it's interesting research nonetheless to see where this all comes from and why it has sort of taken place the way it has.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Um thanks for doing the research I appreciate that that would have made my head explode well that's what we do here we we we give you we give you the hard facts you know and this is this is the hard facts that we've got a a a territory war essentially we're not we're not journalists and we're not journal but we're not journalists so um that's going on our t-shirt is that our first t-shirt just just curious nerds pop culture podcast we're not journalists yeah well it's gonna go on the back at least yeah absolutely uh yeah have that have that on the back have have the logo on the front yeah yeah I'm starting to sorry there's the merch who wants merch who wants merch yeah we maybe we should put a call out who wants merch uh all right so uh maybe let's get into should we get into uh the review says Jack Nicholson is colossal magic apart from the school anybody proper space with faces joined force galaxy from the right of the planet today on Bravo let's talk about Punisher one last kill yeah you already mentioned it earlier yes as has there has there been what when VFX or stunt based yes vfacts uh and stunt based so there is uh because I don't remember there being anything about it that was okay so I'll put in I'll I'll put in uh spoil it here uh we uh there's a a scene where Frank Castle falls off the roof yes and he falls onto what may be like a a shipping container a was it a shipping container or an air conditioning container or something like that or a bus or like a yard large and that that scene yeah is very CGI influenced uh and it's been when when you actually watch it over and over and over again it looks like it's a a like a scene out of like a GTA game.

SPEAKER_09

But I didn't watch it over and over and over again I just watched it once. But I've seen it I've I I actually noticed it when I was watching it um and then I when I was you know reading up about it later I'd I've noticed that there's been this this it's it's been a bit of a running joke that they've that that they took a scene out of uh GTA uh GTA uh game uh scene so can I just say on and as an aside I love those clips yeah the GTA clips on Instagram yeah yeah of people laying into it anyway yeah that's um no I I hadn't noticed like I I I only watched it at normal speed all the way through like I haven't slowed it down or paused it or anything which let's face it like if you're gonna slow stuff down and you're gonna pause it you're gonna see things differently.

SPEAKER_07

Well the nerds the nerds are I I mean like I said I was watching it I watched it all the way through like that's not how you're supposed to watch it when that scene came up it my it did pique my interest when when when I saw it right it made me say ouch oh okay well yeah different different viewing lens I suppose um got better eyes than I do I don't know about that uh but uh you know it's it's um look I really dug this I really enjoyed it is this the only bit or is that that's the only bit that's the only just that one shot yeah just that one shot and and it's like what five seconds if that you know it's it's pretty it's pretty quick. One two seconds it's pretty quick. You've seen you've seen the raid have you seen the raid the movie the raid no I haven't right so so the raid is a Indonesian film that was um I want to see an action film. I do want to see it. And for anybody that's seen the raid you haven't seen the raid have you? I haven't no yeah okay so the raid I want to yeah yeah I definitely you'll be exhausted like anybody who watch I've watched it I don't know how many times now and every time I watch it I'm still exhausted every time I watch it I'm exhausted the minute I get up every day. It's like two hours of consistent martial art choreography um and um it's it's just it's an Indonesian production and um yeah it it they I I believe that Doom the uh the Doom with um with uh was it Carl Urban um uh was who he was in it he was um uh that was heavily influenced on it on that on that film because the rake um but saying that that's what I felt like uh the Punisher one shot was which is which is definitely a compliment for sure.

SPEAKER_09

Okay.

SPEAKER_07

Um what about you?

SPEAKER_09

I thought it was great. Um producer Kim found it a bit of a hard watch just because of some of the violence and the but I mean that was fair enough some of the stuff towards the end which again I won't spoil I was looking away as well but um it amped up I felt like that it was it was it it just kept climbing like it you know like the level of violence you know to begin with it was it was it was you know normally what you would expect from a a Marvel Frank Castle slash daredevil sort of you know production. I I I really enjoyed it because um not because I enjoyed the the violence so much but um you know I enjoyed the action and the and the fight sequences and the choreography and the stunt work and all that sort of stuff. I just thought that was glorious um but I just really enjoyed it because I thought it was a really uh authentic uh portrayal of what a Punisher story should be um but you know the Punisher is uh it's a it's a dirty story like it's a violent painful um angry story you know any any any any Punisher story and whether it's in comics or in live action um you know if it's if it's doing its job it needs to portray that. I don't think that's what we're gonna see in Spider-Man but that's not a Punisher story. It's a Spider-Man story featuring Punisher. Yeah um but I was really thrilled that it was so in your face and violent because that's what Frank's uh life is that's that's what he is as a character that's why he's problematic that's why other heroes within the MCU have problems with him is because he just unleashes his rage in such violent ways. But I really enjoyed it. I thought it was a great uh wild ride um yes it was difficult to watch at times but I think it should be um and yeah I thought it was great I just thought it was a really great uh showcase of John Burnthor but also as I said I mentioned before the stunt performers um skills um and I'm a big fan of what stunt performers give to us um and anything that sort of gets to showcase their abilities at their uh most extreme I I think is wonderful.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah I d the the I I did also like the lead up to the violence that we got was a was a very you know sort of shorter part at the at the start of the Yeah it was a good setup was was you know just the trauma that he's going through and being haunted by ghosts of past.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah it was also a good um sort of paired back recap of where he's come from to the people that haven't uh perhaps seen the original Netflix TV series. Yeah um I I thought that they did a really good job with it.

SPEAKER_07

The only thing that surprised me about this completely was the the runtime of this. I didn't realise it was going to be so short. Yeah I I I I don't know why um but I always got the impression that it was going to be like a feature length film you know that they'd that they've done for streaming.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah I don't know how I knew it was just going to be a short one 51 minutes. Yeah well I mean it was along the lines of like Werewolf by night yeah um and some of the other uh you know shorter fare that we've had since the on the onset of mcu on TV yeah um I I thought it was uh just a a great length and I quite like that that um the Disney plus uh MCU gives us that opportunity because sometimes stories warrant uh two hours sometimes stories warrant 90 minutes and sometimes they warrant 45 yeah um and I think like you can't release stuff like that in the cinema no because it's it's not long enough people aren't gonna feel like they're gonna get their money's worth yeah but whereas I think that this is a format in which you can tell those shorter shorter stories and if the story um you know uh it dic dictates that it it should be a shorter running time I don't want them extending it just for the sake of extending it um so I I I think it's really great.

SPEAKER_07

I I think it was just that I was enjoying it so much that I wanted it to go longer.

SPEAKER_09

You wanted to be exhausted and emotional like you were at the end of the raid.

SPEAKER_07

Oh well I mean I I still was you were down for it just just not on on on a greater degree that you are with the raid right um but I I think that's all it was like I didn't know what the runtime was my expectation was was somewhere a lot higher um when it came to to the length yeah and then when they finished I was like oh is that it is it's done like I want to I want more of this I want to I thought I I want to eat from from yeah if you want to please tell us if we're saying that correctly or if it's completely inappropriate.

SPEAKER_09

I really liked it because I thought that uh it in terms of its run time was short sharp violent and brutal just like the incident that it was portraying.

SPEAKER_07

Oh yeah for sure um it was a bit like the purge as well you know the the that uh film series of the purge where one year one one I I've never seen them but I know what the storyline is that it's uh one one day a year yeah the government uh withdraws all laws when it comes to violence or yeah and and so it's it's a way of like purging the population the human population to you know sort of preserve resources etc etc yeah I just I'm and it felt a bit like that as well you know like you know the the uh the the law enforcement was definitely overrun they had no way of being able to control the level of violence of you know those riots etc that was going on so Frank was sort of just he's just got like carp line to just do whatever he likes however he likes and no one's gonna you know be able to stop him which I thought was a really good way of doing it as well.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah it reminded me from a from a comic reader's perspective it reminded me of like a really good uh Punisher annual or a Punisher special where it tells an isolated story about Frank in you know in a one shot that um you know just smacks you in the face and then bug is off.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah um I thought it was great I thought it was really really good fun um and I of course hope we see you know lots more Frank as I said I know we're gonna see him in Spider-Man um but I I hope that we see more of him in um future seasons of Dead Oval and Beyond well we got some introduction of a of of some newer characters too which was was interesting that they they've and I mean we don't want to obviously spoil anything here so um but just interesting that they've they've thrown those into the mix. Yeah um so yeah I think I think we'll get more yeah I I I I I would like to see more of those yeah for sure absolutely yeah what else have you been watching uh I've been watching the regular show Lost Takes oh how good have you are you up to date of the nine episodes I'm not no I've been I've been sort of savouring them a little bit yeah so I think I'm up to maybe episode four.

SPEAKER_09

Have you so maybe five so number four is Boba T. Have you watched Boba T yet I think is I'm not sure that's four. No I don't think I've watched Boba we're up to four now I haven't watched Boba T. Yeah okay so so we talked about I I talked about this I think last episode I'm getting confused because depending on where you see them listed the first episode is listed as two episodes or one. Correct. Yes that's why I'm getting confused yeah but um I I'm really enjoying it sorry go on.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah I was just saying that that that this the way that they've introduced a because the way that they finished the original series was very well rounded and I think fans were very happy with the way that it was pretty final that the the the the the the way that the series ended right um and I think that without giving any spoilers um I think that they did a really good job of reintroducing this show um that sits really nicely with the rest of the the episodes.

SPEAKER_09

I think that they've done a a really respectful job for the fans that enjoyed the finale of the original show by giving us that reintroduction that explains why why we're now why we're now getting more stories. But I also like the fact that most of these episodes can exist in inside in in the continuity of sure can I but I but I do love that they gave us that explanation because not everybody will need it. Yes um but for those that do I thought it was a really fun um way to sort of explain why we're back.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah it's it it's it's it's great for and this is what I liked about it. It's great for fans of the show or it's it's a great jump on point for those that maybe not have watched the regular show before. Yeah. So you know bringing in a new generation of of fans so I I I I thought it was just really nicely done. Those those those episodes are funny though like they are they're they're not holding back when it comes to being crazy and out of control and is it is it just me or are there little sort of more slightly more adult references in some of his as well. Definitely definitely more references for am I underselling it there at my wait there's a there's a uh there's a stilt episode coming up yeah um yeah when you get to the stilt episode there is plenty plenty of uh plenty of adult references in there that uh nice yeah I mean I like that they're done in a subtle way that isn't gonna put off parents from well hopefully it isn't gonna put off parents from letting the kids watch it.

SPEAKER_09

But um yeah no I'm I'm really enjoying it so far. Loving having some fresh material. Oh it's fantastic I'm really really really digging it I think it's um you know animation is still on point um yeah the writing is is is on point um the voice the voice actors are are are there um hasn't lost anything oh definitely not yeah definitely not so I'm I'm I'm right behind that one um and we'll keep probably talking about it for sure that probably yeah what else you mean watching we'll be talking about it regularly I like that uh I have also uh while we were away we finished off two uh streaming shows uh we finished off watching Deadlock yep uh which is the Amazon show the Australian crime uh comedy which you've talked about on the previous episode yes so we finished watching that um loved it uh it sort of um I'm not sure whether we'll get more beyond season two um it does kind of wrap up most of the storylines in a fairly satisfying kind of way right um but really loved deadlock and the other one that we finished watching was um the Arful Dodger on Disney Plus another a another Australian show yeah um and talking with producer Kim we think that one might be finished now like season two might be all we get I hope that that's wrong I hop I I'd love if we got a season three they have sort of kept it open um to the possibility of that um but yeah really enjoyed uh season two of Heartful Dodger as well yeah nice um and that's pretty much been us. Yeah um what about you?

SPEAKER_07

Okay I we've we've talked about this in uh past episodes we talked about the trailer for it yeah um I'm talking about the Burrows yes uh Netflix production I missed that this had dropped because I was yeah because I was away I think it was actually really quiet the way that they've dropped it they really haven't you know sort of promoted it too much other than a trailer yeah um and it was just in a you know uh it just sort of popped up in you know do you want to be notified when when it when it comes out yeah um but they really haven't done a lot to promote this how much of it have you watched four episodes four out of the I think it's eight yeah episodes so I'm about halfway through and how's it going it's really great it's it's great the this is a really um this is fun this is a really really fun adventure okay with uh with with the elderly you know this is this is what it it really is like this is the it it when and when I say that it it reminds me of cocoon well it it's the Goonies meets cocoon that's the best way to describe it okay um and that's why i'm saying it's it's it's got that fun adventure part to it yeah with a with a with with with elderly actors yeah um and so that's why i'm saying you know the goonies meets cocoon maybe we'll say older rather than elderly okay well they they refer to themselves as elderly but that's okay okay in that in that case i i withdraw my request yeah so um uh we've got alfred melina who's the lead yeah love um he he he plays Sam um can I just say in the first episode without giving anything away yeah look out for a uh a a a throwback yeah to Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost art oh excellent right just look out for that part right it's it's it's in there and when you see I I I looked over at producer manning and said did you see that and she went yeah what's that and I went what do you mean what's that and as soon as she saw it she was like she was like she was excited say no more I look forward to that um we've got Gina Davis uh Bill Pullman we've got um Alfrey Woodard uh who else we got which it's just it's on and on and on like the the the the cavalcade of of stars is just amazing yeah it's an amazing card um it's really well acted the one thing I really like about this and we were we were talking about this when we watched it and um it just it just shows that um it just shows how the elderly how frustrating it must be to be an older person and and how you in your and you know I I I I was joking about this before that you know mentally I'm 25 right um this is exactly that example mentally they are younger um but they're elder you know because of their bodies they can't do the things or or that they want to do or or be the way that they want to be anymore because they're older right yeah and that the way that they're treated you know they they've they're they're not treated with the respect that they deserve they actually it's almost like they've regressed to be children again and they they're you know the younger generation uh underneath them treat them like they're children don't they they patronise them yeah yeah so so so in a way that even though they're older they're being treated like they're younger you know and so this is a really great example of showing that you know the elderly have so much to offer this is this is not us complaining by the way no definitely not no no no no I'm not ready for my walk it yet right um what the what but this is what's what this is what's so great about it right yeah yeah and this is why this sets this apart from everything else because we're seeing a young adventure with with a with with older actors okay and I and I think that that's what's really fun about this yeah it's really entertaining it's off the wall yeah um we that the first scene of the first episode so that pilot episode yeah it is like it sets the tone for the rest of the for the rest of the series. Okay um the yeah the acting's great directing's great um duffer brothers are definitely part of this it really feels you know it's it's got a bit of a it's got a bit of that sort of Stranger Things sort of approach to it. Okay. Um yeah I I really don't know where this is going. I mean I mean I'm halfway through it now and you know there's been a a a reveal of something and I'm like okay that's really that wasn't what I expected and so I expect to have a a few more of those. Yeah um but this is great. This is a highly highly recommend it and um yeah look if you've got a Netflix subscription please jump on watch it because I'd love to see a a season two if it's on offer.

SPEAKER_09

Alright no I will I will definitely check it out.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah uh okay I think we are getting into sort of the closer end of the show yeah now let's get into uh the shout I just wanted to shout out uh Pub Culture Plus don't forget to uh have a listen to our latest episode with Trev Wood was a good one um and it was a good one um you know they've all been good I you know I mean bias aside they've all been good because they're great people to talk to they have um and um you know trev's got a a again a different insight into um the comic book industry and um in it within Australia yeah uh and uh you know uh I've I've known Trev for a long time but you know every time I talk to him there's always something that he says that I that that I take away from the conversation and you know I think that's what I like about um you know talking to these people that we've spoken to so far. So um yeah highly recommend um you know if you're looking to start a comic um you know you're in the middle of one looking for some motivation um uh wanting to know how to you know go to the next level then you know check out the uh pulp culture plus uh series that we we we produce usually on a weekly basis um we've got a hiatus oh it has been so far yeah yeah it's uh we've got a hiatus for this week but um we'll be back uh uh for those of you who have seen the photo I uh also wanted to give a shout out to the two guys that uh were wearing stormtrooper outfits when I we uh accosted them uh I was in a restaurant and uh producer Mandy said to me hey two stormtroopers just walked past the window quick go get a photo with them for the for the show clearly very patient individuals yeah and uh they were they were lining up to get their tickets and they uh very graciously uh had a had a quick uh quick snap with me uh with them and uh so wanted to shout them out I didn't even get their names it was that quick this is this was in Ballarat this was in Ballarat so yeah they were lining up at the Regent Theatre awesome beautiful uh palace uh cinema yep uh and uh yeah they were they were eager to get in and and and watch this watch the film which I totally understand so um so yeah shout out to the two though those two guys one of them actually recognised the the uh the show so yeah absolutely he said uh you're that orange one so uh you know uh that's wild the branding obviously works um too bad about the host but look if we if we're the orange one I'm going with that so you said hosts or hosts they're talking about you uh you know I'm I'm just the they said too bad about the host no I I'm saying too bad about the host they remember the orange of the branding but not the hosts they didn't say but these are not the hosts we're looking for uh but anyway uh yeah shout out to the those two guys um if you if you uh if you are listening to that this episode uh and you recognise shop in uh Mansfield this week yeah um I bought four books I bought a gift for some um relatives in Canada um beautiful bookshop uh lovely people great atmosphere great selection of books um beautifully maintained uh shop um and it just yeah made me so grateful for um independent bookshops and the experience of being able to go into a bookshop whether it's um this one the Ink bookshop in Mansfield or All-Star Comics Melbourne or um wherever you find a bookshop um go in support your bookshops buy something if you can um buy something for yourself buy something for a friend um yeah I just wanted to shout out um small bookshops because uh yeah for those of us that love for books whether it's comic books or graphic novels or um novels or history or nonfiction um we know uh how wonderful and exciting and energizing the experience of going into a local bookshop is um and we want to make sure that they stay around forever so um yeah support your local bookshops yeah it's something unique about going into a a local bookshop too isn't it it's it's uh it's kind of got the vibe of the area and yeah you know it it's it's kind of a bit mystical as well sometimes when you go into those places it's a bit of a snapshot about what the interests are and the priorities in those places are too I got to I had a couple of really nice chats with the people that work in their in their shops yeah we talked about things we've been watching on TV things we've been reading um you know uh the weather all sorts of stuff um and it was just it's lovely um and as I said I hope I want
